A Place to Succeed
It was my daughter that challenged me to finish my college degree. With her encouragement, I searched for an institute of higher education that would work with me. Over a decade ago, I tried to complete my degree at two other institutions to no avail. It was when I entered Judson that I knew this was the place where I was finally going to succeed. My deduction was based on the difference I felt during the very first meeting with my enrollment specialist. She inspired me in the interview, supported me during the application process, and was there for me every step of the way. Even though I’ve graduated, I know that I can pick up the phone and a friend will be on the other end.
It was my wife that helped me clarify my inner goal to become a teacher. After 26 years as a Realtor Master Broker, I was seriously considering using my business knowledge to make a difference as a teacher. But, I did not know how to proceed. Little did I know that the very first course that all Judson students take would be the perfect next step.
The Becoming a Successful Student course was a “defining point” in my decision process.
The Becoming a Successful Student course was a “defining point” in my decision process. During this course Judson learned of my goal and the professors and staff helped me to clarify and develop a plan of action to achieve my goal. They put me in touch with other Judson education faculty and school teachers and administrators in order to help me design a course structure that would get me certified as quickly as possible. I was able to take courses from both the adult undergraduate side and the traditional undergraduate side to qualify to teach under the certificate only program. I learned quickly that Judson provides support to help students achieve their goals.
I not only received a degree from Judson, I received that and more. I received a planned-out course schedule, a support system that encouraged me, and mentoring from senior professors that coached me on achieving my goal. Professors at Judson are uniquely concerned with each student’s individual success and appreciate students as individuals, not just as another student in an over-populated classroom.
I chose to attend Judson because it was upbeat, organized, and “felt” like a great place. All this; on top of small class sizes of about twenty students or less, cohorts that meet only once a week, and a great system for adults to complete their degree quickly.
What I experienced at Judson was special. I learned that the professors and staff have a unique concern for student success. My cohort built a high degree of camaraderie so we were able to support each other along the way. In this setting I surprised myself by becoming a better student than ever before, and I was able to prepare myself strategically while allowing me to take a real good look at myself to help me define my future goals.
After graduating from Judson I have secured a position as a bilingual teacher and am beginning to transition into my new profession.
After graduating from Judson I have secured a position as a bilingual teacher and am beginning to transition into my new profession. I am currently making plans to enroll in the Master’s of Education program at Judson to continue my dream of being a teacher of excellence. Thank you, Judson, for all your support, encouragement, and guidance. There are dreams yet to be realized, but through the years I’ve learned that if I can see great things, and believe great things, I will achieve great things.
