A Christian Worldview Perspective
Words are not enough to express the positive experiences I had while pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Human Services at Judson University. The support from the faculty and staff contributed greatly to my positive experience. The faculty understood my struggles as a returning student and always showed me love, respect, and patience. The computer lab staff, writing coaches, and my academic advisor all played an important part in my success as a student at Judson. Even though Judson moved from a college to a university, the education remains the same; and I’m proud to be an alumni.
I knew I would receive the same quality education as at a large school, but from a Christian worldview perspective.
After being out of school for 17 years, I returned as an adult student to earn my undergraduate degree in human services. I completed my associate’s degree at a local community college and then immediately enrolled at Judson. I knew I would receive the same quality education as at a large school, but from a Christian worldview perspective. The professors at Judson were experienced professionals and held full-time positions in the human services field.
Judson provides an adult educational environment for adults. I really appreciated that I was in a cohort with other adults. There was one time I felt like quitting, throwing in the towel, out of fear I would not graduate due to a very complex paper I just could not complete. My instructor, Michele Martin, encouraged me to stay, guided me with my paper, and prayed for me. That experience had the greatest impact on my ability to successfully complete the program and obtain my degree.
Not only did I receive a salary increase, I felt like I moved into my career.
After completing my degree, I was promoted from a Unit Tech to an Addiction Counselor. Not only did I receive a salary increase, I felt like I moved into my career. As a counselor in the human services profession, I am able to share my Christian values in a secular environment. I felt called to serve others by earning the Human Services degree. Judson made it possible. To further pursue my call, my future goals include pursuing a Master’s in Counseling and becoming a licensed professional counselor
