Attracted to the Accelerated Cohort Model

When I was 11 years old my family immigrated to the U.S. where I finished high school through a G.E.D. program.  I knew I wanted to complete my college degree but I put my dream on hold due to family commitments.  Eventually, one of my managers encouraged me to earn my degree so I began to think more about how I could finish a degree while working and maintaining my family.

I knew that if I did not attend Judson it would take me much longer to complete my degree.

I learned about Judson University after attending a local community college and was attracted to the accelerated cohort model.  I knew that if I did not attend Judson it would take me much longer to complete my degree.  I knew it would be stressful going to school with a full-time job and family, but the staff and students at Judson encouraged me to continue.  I sincerely feel gratitude to all the instructors and students who encouraged me and did not give up on me.  The relationships I developed in the face-to-face teaching environment were critical to my success.

The instructors and staff made me feel at home and provided me with numerous encouragements.  They were always willing to help me whenever I needed help.  It did not matter how insignificant my question was, they made me feel welcome and helped me resolve the issue.

Judson also allowed me to express my religious beliefs in an open and appropriate manner.  Compared to my previous class experiences, students at Judson were allowed to state their positions and agree or disagree, within a respectful environment.  The cohort model was like family providing support and encouragement.

Having the combination of a Human Services degree and a second major in Human Resource Management has helped me to develop a new perspective of work.  My human services training influences how I think about human resource management and provides me with a diversity of job opportunities.

Knowing that I was near completion of my degree was instrumental in helping me move into my current position.

Completing my degree at Judson was a positive experience.  My company knew that I was near completion of my degree and this was instrumental in helping me move into my current position.  An added bonus of my second major is that I have been allowed to create a connection with my company’s HR department to assist them in some of their projects.
